Ischia’s thermal springs
Ischia, an island of volcanic origin, is the largest of those in the Gulf of Naples. It contains thermal water rich in sulfur, iodine and chlorine as well as microelements of active chemicals.
They are curative for many conditions, such as arthrosis or rheumatism, dermatitis, and diseases that affect the respiratory system. They can be used in baths, showers, irrigation, or inhalation to release their therapeutic effects.
One of the oldest hydrothermal traditions in the world. There are many springs, fumaroles, and muds scattered around the island’s 47 square kilometers.
Romans were the first people to discover the benefits of thermal water for their healing or thaumaturgical abilities. Thanks to the island’s springs, they built real public spas.
Many more illustrious guests, modern and ancient, came to Ischia because of its fame. It was just like Alphonse Lamartine who visited Ischia and fell for it. De Lamartine likely lived alone on Ischia for a time before moving there with his family. The thermal waters helped him to treat his liver. Casamicciola was his choice of residence. He cured his ailments at the source known as the Eye in 1820-1844.
P. Malcovati from Milan was an important figure in the growth of thermal tourism. The doctor recognized the healing qualities of Ischia water and invested his savings in the Pithecusa company, whose goal was the “enhancement” of Regina Isabella spa.
The treatment’s benefits are rounded out by the amazing variety of island vegetation and the incredible climate. This island has the advantage of being able to combine the therapeutic effects of its thermal waters and a wide range of natural and receptive attraction. Ischia is the ideal destination for holidaying.
Every municipality has its own spa, which offers treatments and stays linked to hospitality for well-being. The island has many beautiful parks and balneothermal gardens, which are real naturalistic oases.
